Where to talk to OpenTag
Choose a channel, thread, DM or web page with the right context and audience.
Channels
Mention OpenTag in a channel it has joined and where it may reply. The ask and result are visible to the room. This works well for reports, shared decisions and work someone else needs to follow.
OpenTag can use accessible context from other public channels. Private channels and Slack Connect have tighter boundaries; see Channels and access.
Threads
Keep follow-ups in the thread so OpenTag can use the original request and replies. You can add a correction while it is working. Mention OpenTag when you explicitly want another response, especially in a busy thread with several people talking.
Paste a Slack message link when you mean a particular discussion. OpenTag can open the thread directly if it has access, including its opening message.
Start a new thread for an unrelated job.
Direct messages
DM OpenTag for a private draft, personal question or work with your own connections. Name the project or channel when the context matters.
A DM can use accessible public-channel context and private-channel context where your membership is verified. It cannot open other people's DMs. An email approval requested from a channel also arrives in your DM.
People in a Slack Connect relationship can reach OpenTag through supported shared-channel and DM flows. That does not grant access to the host workspace's internal company knowledge.
The web app
Sign in at app.tryopentag.com with Slack. Select the right workspace before changing settings.

The web app's settings and Slack requests use the same workspace. A channel answer still has that channel's audience, even if your personal account can access more information elsewhere.
