Creating a routine

Describe recurring work in Slack or the web app, choose its schedule and check the first run.

Ask in Slack

@OpenTag every Monday at 09:00 Europe/London, read last week's new deals in Attio and post a pipeline summary here. Include links to deals with no next step.

You can also ask after a successful job: “Do this every Monday at the same time.” Include the timezone and destination; “at 9” is ambiguous across a distributed team.

Check OpenTag's confirmation of the instructions, schedule and destination. A successful one-off report is a useful starting point, but the recurring date window needs to move with each run.

Create one in the app

1

Open Routines

Sign in at app.tryopentag.com, choose your workspace and open Routines.

2

Describe the work and schedule

State the sources, reporting period and output. Set when it should run, including the timezone.

3

Choose delivery and supporting material

Choose the channel or DM and attach the skills or files it needs. A private channel requires appropriate membership and OpenTag access.

4

Check the first run

Run it once, read the sources and result, and correct the routine's instructions before leaving it on a schedule.

Decide who may change it

You own the routine you create. In a channel, that channel initially gets Read access. In a DM, the definition starts private. You can grant named teammates or channels Read or Edit access afterwards.

Editors can change work that runs with your authorised connections. Give Edit access with that in mind. See Managing routines.

Choose a useful frequency

Match the schedule to when someone acts on the result. A weekday report runs roughly five times as often as a weekly report; a daily schedule also includes weekends. Leave time for upstream data to finish arriving before a month-end report.
